Tree Agate & Sterling Pendant, 1-3/4" long stone. The large oval stone is set in a braided frame giving it a strong, bold appearance. The stone varies in color from reddish brown to charcoal gray and the distinctive tree rings can be seen in the lower part. The large patterned bail will take nearly any chain.

Tree Agate is a variety of chalcedony. The bands of color look similar to tree trunks which leads to it's name. The stone is sometimes confused with moss agate, but the background color of moss agate is usually clearer than tree agate.

Agate has been widely used throughout history. The Egyptians used it to make talismans and it has been found amongst the remains of Stone Age communities in France.
