Dichroic Glass & Sterling Pendant, Blue teal & yellow with a checkered pattern, 1-3/4" glass stone. Every time it moves the reflection changes delighting the wearer.
Dichroic glass is the result of multiple micro-layers of metal oxides. It was developed by NASA for use in satellite mirrors. Multiple ultra-thin layers of different metals (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium, silicon) are applied to the surface of the glass in the vacuum chamber. It's main characteristic is that it has a transmitted color but a completely different reflective color. Light passing through dichroic glass transmits one color, while light bouncing off of dichroic glass reflects a different color. And to make it even more amazing, these two colors shift depending on the angle of view. When you combine the play of light with the vibrant colors of dichroic glass, the visual beauty will delight you.
Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly reproduced; each piece of fused dichroic glass is unique and no two pieces are ever the same. Our pendants are large and make a true fashion statement.
